Don’t Be a Death Noob
12 responses, May 06, 2009Have you ever been in a group (raid, instance, battleground, etc), looked over the makeup, and KNEW you were in trouble? You’re nodding, I know. We’ve all been there at one time or another.
Tuesday was one of those nights. After a very fruitful Naxx-25 run (that saw Grim on chow kiting duty), the decision was made to attempt Vault of Archavon. Grim was elected as a tank, so I ran off to Shadow Vaults to change the rune on his Titansteel Destroyer. By the time I was summoned, the group was mostly full – and when I noticed that there were 8 total Death Knights in the group, I cringed. Not because I was concerned about fighting for gear, but because there are far too many idiots who play Death Knights, thus earning us that lovely Death Noob label.
Eventually, we headed inside (23 manning it) and as we reached the boss, the conversation went to tactics. I’m ashamed to say that it was a member of my guild that started talking about how “cool” it would be if all of the death knights did their army of the dead. As Main Tank I quickly squashed that, making it clear that it wouldn’t be cool and I didn’t want to see it happen. Our guild leader was also in the run and he backed me up.
Fast forward to the battle, and what should be a simple fight of punching Archavon in the mouth until he acts like the vending dispenser that he is, instead turns into insanity. Several of the Death Knights decided to pop their Armies anyways (including the one from the guild, sadly), and several others also seemed to think they were being helpful by casting chains of ice. Needless to say, the threat meters were all over the damn place, and we just barely beat the enrage timer.
I was ticked. Really really ticked. In fact, I was so ticked that there was a point I stopped fighting so that I could type out in raid (after I’d been hollering in Vent) to cut the crap, explicitly telling them not to use those two spells. When they chose to ignore that, I booted several DKs from the group as soon as the boss was down (and no, no DK gear dropped regardless) and then logged off for the better part of an hour to cool off.
It really toasts my buns when I work so hard to make myself a viable DPS (or tank, as the case may be), only to have so many idiots make the class look like we have no clue what we’re doing. There’s no excuse for it.
Please folks…don’t be a death noob.
