Wipes? Just a tad…

Jan 10, 2009 I raiding, tanking.

Yikes.

I was hoping to be able to post an image of a dead boss, with all of BSL in our lovely guild tabards, flexing and otherwise hamming it up…

Unfortunately, the only screencaps we would have had tonight would have been of many, many dead bodies. I’m pretty sure my repair bill was up in the 60-80g range, and that may be a lowball estimate. Not exceedingly painful, but a definite wince factor there.

I’m honestly not sure what we’re doing wrong or how we can do it differently. I know that the plan for tomorrow night has me as MT instead of OT – maybe that’ll make a difference? Dunno…

But if anyone who reads this has suggestions for the Anub’Rekhan, feel free to drop ‘em in comments – can’t hurt at this point.

What are some of the issues you guys had on the boss fight?

There are a few things that could have gone wrong. First of all your tank needs to be on the ball with kiting the boss during the locus swarm and they can’t fall in the green stuff or they will drop to 50% hp. Also make sure that your raid stays on the opposite side of the room from the boss during the locus swarm or they will get overwhelmed.

If those things aren;t your problem, then maybe its dps or healing in general. If everyone in the raid doesnt pull their weight there are problems.

It appears that the MT was dying from corpse scarabs that spawned from the corpse of the corpse guards. I’m not sure what it is about them that are killing him, but those seem to be the issue. I believe the other issue is the MT Healer is having issues healing during locust swarm.

I’d say for 11 of the 12 times we attempted, Grim was the last one to die. The other, I think I stepped into the green crap and my healer couldn’t bail my beefy behind out. Not his fault – my own for stepping in the stuff.

Our first look at this fight was difficult as well, but a few things helped:

Locust Swarm, on top of the damage debuff, is a silence as well, so if you get hit with that, you can’t attack or use spells for the duration of the effect. Which, as I found out the hard way, makes it to taunt and hit the adds :)

I try to stack the corpses of the guardian adds on top of each other, as this is where the scarabs will spawn, and try to have a dnd down 1 second before they spawn. A few always get by, so you might have to chase a few around.

The scarabs also spawn from dead players, so if you’ve lost a few players, there will be lots of scarabs to deal with, which can get really overwhelming. If people are avoiding locust swarm and the ground spikes, the raid doesn’t take much damage.

We downed him our second visit without losing a person, and the number of scarabs was pretty trivial.

I think you’ve just made me realize what the issue is…

We’re not getting the first guardian down quick enough to have enough of a buffer between when the corpse scarabs spawn and when the next corpse guardian spawns. I wasn’t picking up the scarabs because I was running over to grab the next guardian – so it seems our issue is a DPS one rather than necessarily a tanking/healing one.

The raid leader and guild leader have already decided that we’ll be doing Heoric runs this weekend in lieu of Naxx, but at least this should help in dealing with that when the time does come to pass.
