Like Hitting a Piñata With a Toothpick
Apr 13, 2010 I guild, raiding. It’s been 2 months since I’ve posted on this blog in what amounted to a hiatus post, 2 months while I’ve been continuing to “live” Alliance side, finding that as the “newness” factor wore off, so did the fun…
For the better part of a month, I stopped playing entirely, instead concentrating on Dragon Age: Origins (want to buy Alistair clone, nao!). The sheer lack of social aspects in that game was a welcome escape to what had become drudgery in WoW, of what seemed like a constant battle against the ever-present elitist jackasses of the world. When the itch to play WoW finally did return, the anti-social behavior didn’t immediately cease, and I instead started playing my first 80, my hunter, Arlenia, who I achievement-hunt on.
As I played her more and more again, I found myself more comfortable again, getting back into the habit of a regular rotation (not hampered by runic power or the lack there of), and I started to play Grim less and less, until I noticed that I was barely even remembering to log onto him to do his Daily Heroic dungeon. That reference to hitting a piñata with a toothpick? Yeah…that’s how I felt when I did play Grim. While I knew and remembered all of the abilities, I no longer felt like I was effective, or even useful. The damage, the flow…none of it seemed *right*.
While all this was happening, the guild that I had followed my raid leader into was beginning to self-destruct. Raids weren’t progressing, the aforementioned raid leader wasn’t happy, and when he ultimately jumped ship, I followed. When he applied to Exodar Waffle House, I did likewise…but instead of app-ing on Grim…I app’d on Arlenia.
After some consideration, they gave me a chance, and the ride I’ve been on since has been nothing short of spectacular. I’ve now seen every boss in ICC short of Sindragosa and the Lich King, and my gear (and DPS/Damage) have improved exponentially. Last night, after getting several upgrades from ToC-25 the previous evening (including 2…yes 2…Trophy of the Crusade), my DPS/Damage finally broke through and felt like I was really contributing. And even though we wiped many times on Blood Queen (getting her down to 8% before we wiped/she enraged) … I can see the progress, and I love it.
But what does this mean for Grim, and this blog?
I’m not sure.
While I’ll never abandon my beloved former cow…he’s not my main in this guild and I don’t foresee him getting any action any time soon either. Likewise, I can’t really expect people to give a damn about hunter gear/specs/etc on what is supposed to be a Death Knight blog.
Perhaps this blog goes on hiatus, and I spin off another blog for the hunter. Perhaps I do the occasional “general” updates here.
If you are still reading here, and have a thought – please drop me a line with what you think might work the best.
I’m open to pretty much anything at this point.

Personally, I think you can either rename this one, or just keep posting here. No need to make an all new blog when you already have one. At least that's what I think.

I say stay here and post what you like. I started visiting because it was a DK blog and I was starting to get a DK raid ready. Your gear list helped out tremendously. But all that prep and work on my blood DK is likely for naught now that blood is the new DK tank in Cataclysm and I have no desire to tank. But I would read your blog regardless. If you post about hunters (Me and My Pet) I will read that too. I may have found your blog because it was DKrelated, but I keep reading becuase I enjoy your writing and insights into the game. I don't think that will change. Use the blog as your voice to the WoW community and people will continue to follow the blog.
Good luck with whatever adventures you choose to follow.

I play a DK but in my down time I'm leveling a hunter. I would love to see you post some stuff about playing a hunter. What specs you like, after playing a DK what you think of playing a range class, etc, etc. Any way I'm keep reading as long as your post stuff

I've been playing a 7-57-7 (Marks) spec on my hunter since 3.3.3 came out. Prior to that, I'd run as Beast Mastery (and now have 4 spirit beasts just sitting in my stables as a result), but I grew tired of the snarky comments from other dungeon-goers about my "low" dps. That isn't an issue anymore!

I would enjoy anything you have to say about any character you play.
