Thank you very much for putting this list together. I look forward to seeing the next posts in the series.

As for PVP items, they aren’t bad, actually. For Death Knights that PVP, they aren’t hard to get. But they all sacrifice something for Resilience, which has meaning in PVP and nowhere else.

There is plenty of lists out there with “best in slot” or “maximum dps items” etc…but they don’t typically spell out where/how to get the item, and if its worth the effort.

Honestly, if Grim wasn’t a blacksmith, I’m not sure I’d have gone through the effort of making his Titansteel Destroyer.

My Death Knight (Rubeola) is also a blacksmith, so I was able to make her a Titan Steel Destroyer as well. And, like you, if she hadn’t been a blacksmith, I doubt I would have gone to the effort to make it. In fact, not only could she make herself a TSD, she could make my pally one as well.

This is some really good advice and a great breakdown of where to get items without having to look at wowhead and search. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to Part 5

I need to get back working on that – got pissed when I was nearly done and lost it to a reboot. Glad to know it's being read and appreciated though. :)

I enjoy it. I recently leveled an Orc DK to 80 on Cairne server and was wanting to be a tank. I have fairly decent gear, 24883 HP unbuffed, 18% dodge, 13% parry, 538 defense, and a 168 or so hit rating. I was in a group last night to do 10 man voa and wasn't sure I could have tanked the adds on emalon so we skipped him and just killed archavon. I should probably go dps until I get some of the drops in places where I can't tank yet. What do you think?

If you toss me a link (via e-mail) to your armory profile, I'll look you over. But just off of description…if you can get your defense up over 540, you should be good to at least tank raid instances.

Hello Grim.  Thanks (again) for putting up this list – I’m finding it to be a very handy list even though I’m no longer (gasp!) Unholy.  (I went Blood DPS/Frost Tank, though I will admit I’m using your Frost build.  I’d love to hear a little about your Tank methods, actually – Frost tank info seems a bit hard to come by…)

Other than the sigil (which is very Unholy specific), I’m continuing to use this list to gear my DK.  I’ve been Frost tanking pretty well, and my Blood DPS seems to fit with my playstyle pretty good (I don’t feel like I have to be as ‘on top of’ my disease rotation – Scourge strike didn’t seem to renew my diseases as often as I’d have liked. =p)  I miss Unholy, but for the time being, I’m gonna stick with what I’m doing.

I’m also looking forward to the last part of this writeup.  Other than the sigil, would you agree that the bulk of DK gear on these lists is transferrable irregardless of spec?  If not, which pieces do you think would change?  (Not asking for suggestions, more of a “what does Unholy ask for in bonuses and stats that Blood/Frost might not?”  I always thought that the job tended to dictate which stats were the chase stats for DKs, not the build.)

Thanks again for your effort on this excellent list.  I look forward to the last part and any other info you provide on this blog.

    My 2 yen to Grimtorn,

    Akiosama

The frost tanking spec/rotation is actually that of an EJ poster, who was kind enough to share the information with me. This is the rotations, for both single target and multiple targets…

For single target: HB > Oblit > BS > BS : Oblit > Oblit > Oblit. At any time when your Frost Fever is about to run out, you may use a HB in place of Oblit, or a Freezing Fog proc. Downside of this rotation is dealing with CC'd mobs. Make sure they are far enough away to not catch HB. Otherwise, maintain your rotation with IT and PS instead of HB.

For multi mob pulls, DnD > HB > BB and then follow the single target rotation, putting HB in as often as possible instead of as little as possible.

Of course, runic dump as necessary.

I think that by and large, gear should transfer well between the 3 trees, though, from what I understand, blood does benefit more from ArPen.

Glad this is helpful, and I'll try and get on the remaining lists – though I may have to update the previous ones with newer information.

This guide is great!! I have a level 78 Night Elf DK on Sentinels named Catlensontar that I'm going to hit level 80 on soon. This guide has really giving me a better understanding of gearing for Naxx! :D
