The most epic of questlines
Dec 28, 2008 I leveling.I’ve been questing in Dragonblight now for a few days and beyond dinging again (74), I’ve been making a conscious effort to complete the various questlines that lead to Return To Angrathar. Having completed that on Malanior, I knew it was something I wanted to do.
Since I don’t want to ruin the subsequent quests for anyone who haven’t experienced those yet, the rest of this post will be behind a ‘read more’.
Those who have experienced this quest know that it is perhaps one of the best questlines Blizzard has ever done. You see a betrayal of epic proportions, see one of the brightest young warriors of the Horde (or the Alliance, as your situation may be) die a senseless, tragic death, and then, perhaps most importantly, you get to fight along the leaders of your faction.
I was already on vent with the guild leaders, talking to them about one of the prequests, when they revealed they hadn’t done the questline yet. I encouraged them to catch up to where I was, and once we all had the Veteran of the Wrathgate achievement, off we went.
Epic, truly epic.
Enjoy the pics, courtesy of the guildmisstress who had the foresight to be taking screenshots as we battled.

Man, finishing this quest made WotLK worth it all by itself for me. I had no idea what was to come, I just saw the achievement, figured I was close and went for it. After I finished that quest, the achievement popped up for just a fraction of a second, and then my PC locked up. I kinda panicked, as, if you know me, I’m an achievement fiend and I thought I was gonna miss the screenshot of the achievement. A couple seconds later (when it was done loading), I was treated to “the video”. I wasn’t expecting it, had no idea it was there, never even heard it whispered on the wind. I was simply blown away… Of course, I finished the quests that followed as well, and just can’t believe the trouble they took with the lore and actually having an in-game event affect your future in the game (no longer able to interact with Verimithras, etc). Just talking about it makes me want to level another toon to do it all again.

I think a good chunk of the fun for me this go around was getting to be there as the guild leaders experienced it for the first time and hearing the awe in their voices after the fact. The really should make the quest mandatory, make it an attunement for something further down the line.
