Nearing 10,000 Unique Hits and Other Milestones

wowscrnshot_052009_234827I know its been awhile since I’ve done a ‘real’ post, one that wasn’t about gearing up for Naxx. And while I did take a hiatus and not play or raid for a bit over a week, I have returned. And as I am nearing 10,000, I’d be stoked if whoever happened to catch that would take a screenshot and mail it to me (address is on the website).

In between prepping “Naxx Gearing” posts, I’ve been raiding aplenty, and The Tribunal‘s 10-man Ulduar group is finally making some serious progress. We took out Ignis for the first time, and Grim took home a pretty sweet polearm. Only problem? Polearm was one of those weapon skills I’d rather neglected – it sat stubbornly at 270. Rather than commit a cardinal sin of raiding, I kept my sword equipped, and kept the new polearm in my bag until after the raid.

wowscrnshot_052109_002903Back to the raid – since we had cleared the Siege area for the first time, we made the decision to venture further inside, and take on Kologarn. That’s the boss where you have to fight his arms and avoid his laser beam eyes. Given that most of us hadn’t seen any sort of strategy video and had to go based on the explanation of the one person who had seen the fight, I think we did pretty good to two-shot him. Since it was a guild first, we took a photo to celebrate. Unfortunately, Grim is hidden behind his Ghoul because someone decided to toss a babyspice as I was capturing the shot.

We called it a night at that point, and I headed off to Brunnhildar Village, remembering that there was an 80 elite neutral mob there, Kirgaraak. Could I challenge him and level up my weapon skill? I was about to find out.

wowscrnshot_052109_024016Kirgaraak as a weapon-leveling foe is ideal, at least in my book. For an elite, he has relatively low life, you can’t kill him, and all you need to do to regen his health is let him reset his starting position. The first 30 or so ranks were a bit hairy (you can’t gain life back on hits if you aren’t making contact), but after that point, I was usually able to stay up over 65% health. On the rare times that wasn’t the case, I just used Death Pact and was as good as new. The bonus of leveling up polarms? The Master of Arms achievement. Also took care of Did Somebody Order a Knuckle Sandwich? while I was at it. Not that I could ever see a time when I’ll be willingly fighting sans weapon (since so many DK ability/strikes require a weapon), but I figure it couldn’t hurt to have.

Expect to see “Gearing up for Naxx” Part 4 up sometime this weekend, and next week will likely also feature some sort of writeup relating to how Grim’s newest gear and new DPS spec are stacking up.  Maybe I’ll even toss up a WWS parse.
